KPOP CONFESSION #17: Tiffany's Solo Debut

So Tiffany made her solo debut and naturally, there was gonna be positive feedback as well as negative. The reason I feel the need to make a confession on it? The negative comments are pretty illogical and hypocritical, and when countered back, these commenters respond with even more illogical arguments. To show you why I'm so frustrated, here are some examples of their "arguments":

The song sucks. It's one thing to say that you personally don't like the song, or that it doesn't catch your interest, but to say the song sucks is a stretch. Just because it wasn't your typical k-pop song, doesn't mean the value of it is lowered. Just because you don't know or can't appreciate the genre of synth-pop, doesn't give you the authority to go out and say the song sucks, when it definitely doesn't.

This song was probably meant for BoA/she needs to stop trying to be the next BoA. Honestly, the people saying this are probably mad or disappointed that Tiffany didn't have an upbeat song for her title track and fail to realize that Tiffany idolizes BoA. Everyone in the music industry idolizes another person in it and is influenced by their style. Every girl group out here is trying to be SNSD, and every boy group are trying to be Big Bang. And there's nothing wrong with that (to an extent, of course).

She can't sing. Because she hasn't been singing live yet and has had a loud backtrack, she's been getting backlash for lip syncing on music shows. Which is probably the most hypocritical comment made. Most groups and soloists lip sync for at least the first week of promotions to showcase the choreography, considering the song is released before their comeback/debut stages. Even though ideally it would be nice to see these entertainers sing live all the time, that's not going to happen. I find it highly hypocritical to look at Tiffany and say she lacks talent as a musical artist because she lip-synced for a few performances, then look back at your favorites' comeback stages who are doing THE EXACT SAME THING and say they "slayed". Also, even though she lip synced, she did to her own song, a song she sung with HER OWN gorgeous voice.

She can't dance. She might not be as good as Hyoyeon or her idol BoA, but that doesn't change the fact that she can dance. Personally, I was surprised by the title of her song having the word "dance" in it, as well as the choreography in the song. I wouldn't say advanced, but it was more articulate than what I thought it would be. And honestly, the people saying she can't dance and that she's only on stage to look pretty would probably look like whales rolling around in comparison to Tiffany.

She has no stage presence. This one is just straight blasphemy. Tiffany is a natural performer and has the MOST stage presence in SNSD. If anyone was going to go solo, it would be Taeyeon and Tiffany. And look: that happened.

Give the other members solos, she doesn't deserve one. ????? Why? Tiffany definitely deserves to get a solo. She's been a HUGE contribution to SNSD with her being lead vocal, speaking English (which helps increase the fan base internationally), and has always been one of the most popular members. She wouldn't even have a solo if she wasn't popular! And honestly, the only other member I would be interested in seeing go solo is Hyoyeon because she has a unique vocal color, amaaazing dancing, and she doesn't shine that much when she's in the group.

Now, that I'm done ranting, I just want to wish our Miyoung  well, and that she'll be able to grow as a musical artist.

TIFFANY FIGHTING <3
