KPOP CONFESSION #12: Thoughts on Baekhyun and Taeyeon's Relationship

So Taeyeon and Baekhyun, main vocalists of SM's breadwinners/main source of income two favorite groups are broken up. No longer a couple and no longer BAEKYEON. I know they broke up a while ago and this is kind of late, but here me out on this:

I never thought Baekhyun and Taeyeon were an actual couple. They're just really good friends. I think SM used this to this to their advantage since it wasn't like they were pulling two people who were awkward/didn't know each other well together. Besides this, there are other reasons why BaekYeon aren't the real deal.

1.) Their "Date"

This date was obviously planned. Baekhyun and Taeyeon aren't idiots. Especially Taeyeon. She's been in the idol world for a long time and she knows what to do and what NOT to do and this falls under the latter. They know better than to have a "date" in the open, in a car, with the roof open. It's like they're asking the paparazzi to jump in the back seat and take close ups. They've also seen the paparazzi and looked the camera in the eye and they didn't even look panicked, but rather chill.

2.) Timing

This is honestly the main reason why Baekyeon is obviously fake. Maybe if the news of their relationship happened and this didn't, I would've believed in their relationship, but because of this, I don't. The news of their relationship was just a cover up for Kris' scandal/lawsuit with SM. It was meant to take away attention from SM and Kris, and give it to Baekhyun and Taeyeon, which was very selfish of them. Like they care. Since Baekhyun and Kris are in the same group, I guess it's better to put attention on someone else in the same group then someone else in another. It's either pay attention to the member who wants to leave your favorite group for good, or pay attention to another member in your favorite group whose dating someone whose not you, but can always break up with them.

Besides Baekyeon, SM also used Red Velvet, their newest girl group, as a cover up as well. Yea, SM could've have already been planning a girl group but let's be honest: Red Velvet was rushed. From the lame name, to the crazy debut (which was cool but obviously just forced out of no where), and those SM Rookies videos on SM's YouTube channel. Right after Kris' lawsuit, they just started spamming their channel with them. And by coincidence yea right, three of the SM Rookies girls were Irene, Seulgi, and Wendy who are--- wait for it--- members of Red Velvet. SM already had their debut planned out. Not well planned, but still planned. There's a SM Rookies video of Seulgi and Irene dancing to S.E.S.'s "Be Natural". But after seeing the video again, I realized it's the same "Be Natural" Red Velvet covered. Meaning their song was recorded before the release of the actual single, and their debut. (The description of the first video says that the song was performed by SRG14, but get this: Joy wasn't apart of SM Rookies ;D).

Besides this, what makes you think SM would go out of their way to promote their trainees? This isn't a cameo in a drama or CF, but putting an actual spotlight on them and promoting. Now SM is stuck having to do these videos, and they aren't entertaining anymore. Ever since the lawsuit kind of blown over, SM just put the rest of them on a Disney Channel show to make them somewhat useful.

3.) KhunFany vs. BaekYeon

News of Nickhun and Tiffany's relationship wasn't released that far from Baekhyun and Tayeon's relationship. KhunFany's news were also released to cover something up, other boy group comebacks like GOT7 and B2ST. EXO was going have a comeback soon so you know SM needed attention turned towards them.

Besides this, whenever KhunFany goes on variety shows and interviews, they're always asked/teased about each other. I remember watching a Running Man episode with 2PM and Nickhun was asked about Tiffany and was very bashful about it. I also remember a Chunji from TEEN TOP being mistaken as Nickhun and asked about Tiffany.

I've never seen interviews with EXO or SNSD where either Baekhyun or Taeyeon were asked about each other, which is suspicious to me. Everyone is always dying to know the inside details of idol relationships and since both of the sailors on the Baekyeon ship are so popular, I wonder why no one is prying into it. But all of a sudden, they're brought up and they're just like "yea, we broke up."

4.) Their positions as Idols

Everyone knows their are strict rules in the idol rules and one of the most important ones--- dating. Dating in the idol world can be dangerous and very risky. You're not supposed to be dating and getting caught could have serious consequences like suspension of activities and being dropped from your company and/or kicked out of your group. Naturally, this rule tends to be less strict the further you are in your career since you've adjusted to idol life and because you're getting old. In Baekyeon, the only one who could be dating is Taeyeon. Taeyeon has been a sunbae in the idol world for about eight years now and her group and herself have received many fans, awards, and popularity. Baekhyun on the other hand is fairly new in the idol world, only being there for about three and a half years. He still has a lot to learn and do, and EXO is at the peak of their popularity. Not only that, they're a boy group, which means many fangirls who believe their oppa is just for them. Not to date, but to sing, dance, and look nice on stage for them. Like, who cares about their personal life? (Note the sarcasm). So what makes you think SM would let one of their most popular male idols date unless they would get something out of it/have an ulterior motive? Baekhyun would lose fans since his fangirls lost their oppa and Taeyeon would also lose fans AND get hate because she's dating their oppa.

5.) Timing of Break Up

Their "break up" was announced when everything seemed to be calmed down. Even though Kris, Lu Han, and Tao still have open cases against SM, it's quiet down a lot. So has the hate towards Baekhyun and Taeyeon, since they both started using SNS again since earlier in the year, especially Baekhyun, who stopped right after the "relationship" was confirmed. Both of their groups also have had recent comebacks, so all is "well" in SM, therefore they no longer need to keep up the façade that is Baekyeon. I've also noticed they described their relationship as "on-and-off", probably to explain the lack of interactions between them, since they are were a confirmed couple and don't necessarily need to hide their affections towards each other, like idols who are secretly dating.

***UPDATED***

6.) Taeyeon's Solo Debut

So Taeyeon had her official solo debut on Oct. 7 (20151007) and this could have something to do with their breakup. Everyone knew that EXO & SNSD fans were on edge about them dating (going as far to bashing them on SNS so bad that they stopped using it for awhile), so their official breakup was probably best in the company's eyes for her to be able to go through this as smoothly as possible.
