KPOP CONFESSION #8: Idol's weight

I've gotten really suspicious lately about idols' weight. I know alot of them are actually really thin naturally like Sooyoung of SNSD and Dara of 2NE1 so some of it is believable but alot of it isn't. The magic number apparently is 45 kg for girl groups which is roughly 99 pounds for some of us Americans. This means three things: companies and/or idols lie about their weight to seem like they're at a "healthy" weight so they won't get bashed for being too skinny, they are actually 45 kg, or they lie to make them seem like the "healthy", perfect idols they're supposed to be.

At first, I actually thought a lot, if not all of idols' weight on their profile was real. As an american whose country is mostly filled with overweight people, I was shocked to read that they weighed so little. I mean, they didn't even hit 100 pounds yet. So naturally, when I watch live performances or dramas or variety shows, I start to pay more attention to their bodies. I'm sorry to say but there's no way you can have actual boobs and have your skin jiggle the slightest if you're 45 kg. It's also with boy groups too. I know there are many non-official official profiles on their weight and some of them are ridiculous. I know it's not crazy or weird for guys to weigh less than females since females tend to have more hormones that mess with the balance in our bodies and they also don't have to carry as much fat to support themselves but still, there's no way they weigh 53 kg, especially if they're around 5'9.

Another thing: diets. We all know the transformations a lot of idols go through before debut so they look presentable to the public. They get plastic surgery, they get skin treatments to make their skin better and whiter, and the most common of all, diets. Since a lot of companies don't have as much money as like the BIG 3, they can't really afford to give PS to new group members, and skin treatments also seem like some sort of luxury. The only one where it can apply to everyone is dieting. It's pretty free considering they eat so little and if they do eat lot, it's really crappy bland stuff. For some reason, I got really upset by the fact that SNSD once said they ate 3,000 calories worth of junk food every day. 3,000 CALORIES. EVERY DAY.  My lie detector is going off and it's about to break from all of the bullsh*t. I mean, if they're going to lie, at least lie....right? I weigh much more than SNSD and I only eat about 1,000 calories a day. What makes you think girls who weigh like half my size eats 3,000 calories a day? Not only that, it contradicts everything else they say about themselves. "We try to stay healthy, we diet, we exercise blah blah blah". They're also really busy considering how popular they are so when do they have time to eat all of this food? Also, they apparently weigh 45 kg so they would put on weight pretty fast if they were eating 3,000 calories every day. SNSD is also a "role model" for skin care since they are a girl group filled with visuals and junk food doesn't make your skin that great. My sister is a junk food addict and her face is getting pretty bad now. Junk food would degrade your skin. Choose your words carefully next time, SNSD.

Again, I'm not surprised by group profiles lying about weight as they would with height and other things. South Korea is a very, if not the most superficial country in the world so trying to seem perfect to the public is a priority whether you're a student, parent, government official, teacher, or in this case, an idol.
